Plastic Inception –
“Relief!” Exclaimed my legs as I took a knee. Wind seemed compelled to splash razor sharp fragments of the shoreline, tattering against my glasses, and blanketing my clothes. My vision remained unbroken as I reached aloof, just beyond the fingertips. Pressing hard against the absolute raw force of the Atlantic’s aerial currents. Keeping direct eye contact on the alien pollutant. Stretching my thorax, to the right, extending the reach of my fingers. Although plenty beneath the pit of my arm. Dedicated to pluck the farthest toxin within reach. Making use of both time and space. For a split second I could see myself cashiering at Publix, picking up a 24-pack of water bottles from the counter and placing them in a woman’s cart. As I placed the water wrapped in plastic pollutants into the cart I gently brushed sand off my hands. Familiar repugnant crack/creek/crunch of a plastic “Whater?” bottle as I pulled it up to the camera lens then into the burlap. Four burlaps, full. Gale force began to push them over. I Couldn’t catch the falling, flying, escaping debris as it catawampus across the desert. Resilience, gathering up what I could and pressing onward. Bending back down to pick up the plastic pollutant, read “Zephyrhills” This time when I placed my hand in my burlap it felt soft and my burlap was no longer sandy. My eyes were open and I was staring at a towel on the other side of my room. Well… Today was by far the most interesting and eventful day of the hike! It started off with Bryan hiking through his hometown of Delray Beach with his mother and a handful of friends and relatives and it ended with him on one knee proposing to his girlfriend Danielle!! So he ended the day’s hike with a few burlap bags full of plastic and a fiancé! Congratulations Bryan and Danielle!
Hobe Sound Florida’s nearly uninhabited beach was still managed to be covered in Oceanic Plastic Discharge! We have GOT to stop using ‘Single Use Plastics’ in our daily lives! But please if and when you are using these plastics please dispose of them in a more environmentally friendly way! #PlasticSymptoms
On roughly Mile 270, Bryan arrived at the Ft. Pierce Inlet before wrapping up Day 15. He managed to fill a burlap sack about three quarters full of plastic in today’s time on the beach, passing even more plastic in order to stay on pace and make it to Miami on the 20th day. He is even more determined today then when he started the trip to expose these Plastic Symptoms and shed light on this unbelievable plastic problem!! Almost 1000 pounds of Oceanic Plastic Discharge has been picked up in only 15 days and that isn’t even the tip of the iceberg for this issue!! Please continue to spread the word and show your support as that is what this whole project is about!! #PlasticSymptoms #Day15
So here in Sebastian Florida, on Day 13, we are up to roughly 700 pounds of Oceanic Plastic Discharge!! That doesn’t even include a large commercial fishing net and a massive plastic barrel that total nearly another 100 pounds!! We can’t wait to show you detailed footage of the trip along with all of the plastic that has been gathered at the end of this 400 mile trek! Stay tuned and thanks for the support! #PlasticSymptoms #Day13
So Day 10 Hiking through New Smyrna Beach brought in yet another FULL burlap sack of Oceanic Plastic Discharge! This Plastic Pollution is Everywhere!! There is so much Tiny/Micro Plastic on our beaches that I can’t even pick up because it is so small… However, just because it is that small does not mean that it is not affecting our ecosystem, as animals are still getting a hold of it and suffering the consequences! These plastics will be around FOREVER so that’s why I’m bringing awareness to this problem and also working on a solution so that we can stop using these ‘Single Use Plastics’ in our daily lives! I thank you all again for participating and following along this journey with me and I hope one day we will all be able to be plastic free!! ONLY WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE! #PlasticSymptoms
